Planes & Palm Trees - Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs, CA
Palm Springs RV Resort

It was wonderful to finally get into the sunshine and 70s.  As we drove through before entering the resort, we noticed these beautiful purple flowers carpeting the desert floor.  We were told it is Desert Sand Verbena.  So pretty.

The resort was very full and we ended up getting in late so we took one of the few sites open that was very close to Rick and Angie.  Not the prettiest but close by.
Since it was their first time here, we're glad they got a nice long spot.
Us with Rick and Angie.  We'll be traveling with them most of the year!

We visited the Palm Springs Air Museum.  It's nicely laid out.  Both our husbands served in the Air Force together in Germany (where they met) so they especially love to see the planes.
The folding wings always amaze me.

This cowgirl helicopter adorned with lots of bling was interesting.  It was out back and they didn't have any information on it.  Not sure you could ride on that saddle unless you could duck!

The Nighthawk F-117 Stealth Bomber was really cool to see.

I liked the Korean War section as my Dad served in that area.

A Russian plane.

After all the walking around at the Air Museum we took them to Downtown Palm Springs and walked around some more.
Since we were thirsty we stopped at Maracas's for some drinks.  The restaurants have outside seating on the strip which is fun.
Mmmmm.  We came back for dinner later.
We spotted Marilyn so we stopped by to say Hi.  This is where she was discovered in 1949 at 22 years old.
One of the many star tiles that line the street.
We had some hikes planned to visit some of the many palm oasis that are out here.  Indian Palms Trail turned out to be hard to follow from the heavy rains washing out much of the trail.  Essentually you follow the wash but we never did find the rest of the trail or the palms. It was a nice hike though.

After a couple of miles we turned back and headed out on the Willis Palms Oasis Trail.

Much easier to find the palms.  Angie spotted a fox right behind the palm trees.

Palm Tree selfie.
The palms were really pretty here, even with the burned trunks from past fires.

So many of those purple flowers out here.

You could walk between the palms.  There was some wet areas but no pretty pond.

It was a fun few days.  Next we'll spend some time at the Salton Sea.

  1. Way cool plane photos to include the red tail mustang. If you are ever in the area of Montgomery Alabama to see the civil rights stuff (stay at the corp. or engineer park outside town) it is a short drive over to the Tuskegee Airfield.

  2. That’s a great museum. They were refurbishing the F-117 when I was there.
    Safe travels!
