Kartchner Caverns State Park & Campground Review

This state park is amazing!  Facinating "live" cavern.  They offer two tours.  Both are about 1 1/2 hrs. and are worth doing both.  Not your usual claustrophobic, climb down 200+ stairs, look around and come back up.  This has a nice, wide meandering path in a very tropical climate for a cave.  The grounds are super clean, spread out and has a nice butterfly/hummingbird garden, campground and hiking paths.

The campground has 62 sites, several pull through, W/E, showers, dump station and nice, wide and deep level sites for $25 a night.  We will definately be coming back to spend some time next October.

Here is a link to the state park campground info:

This is a great jumping off point to visit: Old Tucson, Tombstone, Biosphere 2 and Bisbee.

  1. Sorry we missed you when you were here. This area has alot more to offer than I thought when we first got here. We did the first 4 wineries along the wine trail in Elgin, only 10 more to go. :-) Here at Butterfield they have an Observatory that is very informative for when you get to this area again. Check it out.

    1. Hi Loretta, during that visit was the first I'd heard of winemaking in AZ. I also didn't know about the observatory. We also didn't have time to see the wild animal exhibit. I'm looking forward to going back through this area once we head out!

    1. Hi Jodee! FYI, that's not our rig in the pick. I stole/borrowed that from the website. We won't get our RV until maybe April. But like you, WE CANT WAIT! I look at every campground, every rig we pass, etc with a whole different interest now!

  3. Debbie, it's so great to see you again in my comments section. If you look back on the blog to the beginning of our full timing you will see that it was an RV Dreams rally with Howard and Linda that really lit a fire under us to do it now and we've never been sorry. We went to their last one in Sevierville and it was great. We're going to the boondocking one in Florida this year but will be out west at the time of the TN rally. I'm so sorry we won't be able to meet you but I know you'll have a great time and learn an amazing amount. Tell them Hi for us! Hope to see you down the road.
