Fishing, Friends & Fun - CA

Placerville, CA
Elks Lodge

What to do when it's in the 100s?  Drive up to the lake for some kayaking and fishing!
Going up just 10 miles and 2000 feet in elevation drops the temperatures 20 degrees.
We're at Sly Park (Jenkinson Lake) in Pollock Pines.  Steve caught them one after the other.  They were pretty small, but what a fun fight these little guys put on.

There's always that exciting moment when you see the flash and hope it's a big one!
Mostly Small, Large and Spotted Bass.
A dinky Spotted Bass.

Small Mouth Bass
It was a great way to spend the day and cool off.
On our last day before leaving for even further up in the mountains with friends, I made Chicken Marsala for my Mom.  It came out delicious!
And a tomato/fresh mozzarella/cucumber/Kalamata olive salad with fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden!  All so yummy!
Of course a little nip for the cook!

Emigrant Gap, CA
Sunflower Resort
It's been so busy lately, it was nice to have 5 days to just relax and have some fun.  We joined Rick and Angie up in the cooler weather.
Rick & Angie's site.
Me, Rick, Steve & Angie.  Steve and Rick have known each other since the Airforce.
Angie was excited to catch a fish.  And that she did!  A nice Cutthroat Trout in Lake Prosser.
It was a beauty!
There were many Osprey looking for a fish meal too.  A couple Eagles flew around as well.
Snack time!
That night we walked down to Snowflower Lake at the campground to stargaze.  Angie was on a roll.  It wasn't enough that she caught the only fish, won all the money at a game we played.  Then she spotted a very long line of Starlink Satellites going overhead.  We counted 22.
How scary it would be if you didn't know what these were?
We went out on Snowflower Lake for an evening paddle after dinner.

We had lights on our kayaks and just paddled on the very smooth water.

I had a light as well as a very bright flashlight.

It was so quiet and peaceful.  We just floated in the lake and watched the stars.  Angie actually spotted another round of Starlink go by.

The final day the three of us hiked around the lake while Steve worked.
The only wildlife we saw were these frogs sitting in the lake outlet that Rick spotted.

It was a great time away with friends.  We needed the rest as the next 3 weeks will be filled with a visit with RV friends on our way to spend time with Bunny in Arizona. Then we'll top it off with the Italian Festival in Reno where John will be cooking in the Sauce Contest.  He has participated for several years and won 1st place 2 years ago!

  2. What a great place to stay, enjoying the water and the cooler temps. It looks as though Steve not only outfished you but also caught the biggest fish!
