More RV Friends at Oscar Scherer State Park, FL

Osprey, FL
Oscar Scherer SP

This week was fun because we were able to meet up with 3 couples we met back in April.  Kelly & 9Bill we met on the way in.  Gene & Eileen are here in Florida for a few more months. Lucky them!  We met up for some kayaking along the river by our campground.  They have one of the cool inflatable kayaks that we considered if we were not able to find a way to transport ours.  Since we were able to get the rack put on in time, we were able to bring it along.

Eileen was laughing because I turned around to take a picture of them and she was taking a pic of us!

Mostly Mangroves and Oaks.

We did see an otter, but the pic (on the L) isn't in focus.  On the right are some oysters I pulled up from the shallow water.  There were more herons around but I didn't get any pictures of them.  No gators either.
Eileen and Gene leading the way.  There were a couple of bridges we had to duck under.

After our day on the river they had to get back home but we will meet back up for some beach time, maybe catch another sunset and for dinner another night.

Steve has a good neighborhood friend that now lives nearby that he hasn't seen since school.  We went over to Sammy& Bethany's beautiful house to meetup.  They have two wonderful kids, Lily and Sammy Jr.  They played catchup and then we headed out to dinner at one of their favorite places.

Oysters Rockefeller, Wings, Mussels in garlic and fish tacos!  Yummy!

It was late once we got home and someone was feeling left out :-(  Guess who?  Looks like Hurley and I will do some hiking tomorrow.

Can we go for a hike please?
We did most of the hikes in the area and saw lots of tortoises, hawks & jays.  No owls though.

There is a really nice biking trail that runs for miles on an old railroad track.  Wish I had more time to bike on this, but we had a very busy social calendar!

These pretties are called Beautyberry.  It's not poisonous, but it is supposed to be rather flavorless.

We spent some time at a beach known for it's concentrated amount of petrified shark teeth.  We also stayed for the gorgeous sunset!

The picture on the right is of some shark teeth.

Very nearby was Sharky's where we had a great dinner after our beachcombing.

Inside they had their tree decorated with flip flops.

Another day we headed to Bradenton to the beach to have dinner with Eileen & Gene.  Gee, sometimes it seems like we eat out a lot!  Really, we don't though.  You pass through a cute town along the way.

I liked the reflection of the palms on this tall building.  On the right is a statue of the famous kiss that ended the war.  It was very tall.  If you stood next to it, you'd be about as tall as the heel on her shoe.

I forgot the name of the beachfront café, but it was great.  Look at our table on the beach.

Jo and Ben are another couple we met at the Rally.  They are traveling nurses.  They stay put a little longer as their assignments are more like 3 months or more at a time.  They have a great place on a little pier and a boat to go fishing in.  Their dogs are very cute and well behaved too!  We had a nice BBQ on the lake, took all the dogs for a walk and then spent a little time at our trailer before we said our goodbyes.  We look forward to seeing them again!

No swimming for the doggies!                      This woodpecker was very busy.

    1. Is there such a thing as a bad sunset? Probably not :-) One of the things we like best about this lifestyle is being able to visit with far away friends and making new ones. Merry Christmas to you as well!

  3. Oh you are having such a great time out there! Wonderful pics - especially on the beach. Love the selfie and the "foot hug" in the sand :-) Seems like nobody is seeing gators this year.....or maybe it's early? Blessings of the season to you and Steve - and Hurley!!
