Valley of Fire, NV - Hiking the Fire Wave Trail

Overton, Nevada
Valley of Fire State Park

The Fire Wave Trail in the Valley of Fire State Park is absolutely amazing!  The hike is only a couple of miles if you take the direct out and back route.  We chose to extend it and ended up with closer to 4 miles.

It has to be one of the most amazing places we've seen.  The rock here looks like pink and white taffy as it waves back and around the rocks here.  You can only see this if you hike out here.

There were quite a few people out here today.  Most were being considerate of taking a quick picture of a key spot, but others were so self absorbed getting their selfies that they stayed in that spot for about 15 minutes before others just gave up.

We took an additional trail that crossed the road to extend our hike to a loop.  It brought us to some really pretty places we had not seen on our previous visit.  I'm glad we went this direction.
There was quite a bit of water still in some of the small canyons so we had to take a higher route.
On this side the colors expand to include many shades of yellows and purples.

The hike sort of skirts behind White Dome.

Absolutely gorgeous out here!
Some small, colorful slots to see.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road comes to mind.  It really is this pretty!

After completing that hike we finished the drive to the end at White Dome.  There are a couple more hikes you can do here and visit the remains of a movie set (above).
After a picnic lunch we headed on down to the slot canyon then returned.

Back up we climbed.

The drive out here is so colorful and different that it doesn't look real.

Balanced Rock.
There are several hikes that are fairly easy to do and easy to get to.  Much of the park is easily viewed from pull outs along the two roads.  This is definitely a place to come see!  It's only an hours drive NE from Las Vegas.
One last campfire and star gazing before we move on.
Good Night All!

  3. One of favorite places. We're exciting to spend even more time there with our smaller RV. We figure it will be nice to head over to stay instead of driving the hour to hike for the day. Your photos are amazing. A perfect day for photography.
