A Movie & More Off Road Exploring - ID

Mackay, Idaho
Joe T. Fallini BLM CG

With only a couple of more days left in Mackay, we wanted to spend some time in the cute town and go to the movie theatre.  It's a non-profit, locally run, independent cinema.  They had a different showing each month.  This month was a cute show called the Biggest Little Farm.  Kind of a docudrama about a family starting a farm in Southern California.  It was very good!

Very small theatre that is in the process of being refurbished.  We had a nice talk with the owner.  His grandson sells the popcorn and drinks.

Then we headed home just in time for another spectacular sunset!

Our final day my brother and I took a ride up to another ridge top on White Knob Peak.  The road started out pretty good but then got very tricky in a few spots.

We went through an old burn area.

And up one of those tricky, steep, rocky parts.
Rough patch in the road!
The only area we found water with small streams running across the road.

Old knarled trees.

That's the peak we're heading too.

We tried the straight up drive, but it's so much steeper and looser than it looks.  It also disappears so we turned around and tried another way.
Slightly better.
As we headed back down we took some side roads to find a few more of the Mine Tour shacks.

The Copper Leaching Ponds.

Makes us look so small!

This was my favorite cabin of all. It's a mine claim owned by "Scott".  He had the best views too!

Thanks Scott for sharing your special spot with us.  We enjoyed exploring around.

I was enjoying all the flowers again!

Lone tree.
Back down the open mountainside with some long views.

And up again.
That's the dirt road on the other side that takes us back near the Old Shay Railroad Bed.

Dinner in town to celebrate Diane's birthday, then we called it a night.

Good Night Mackay, and thanks for a great time!

  5. Gorgeous sunset! Yes, the BIG truck definitely makes the quad look small. What a fun time spent with your brother :-)

  6. I stopped getting notices of your posts so I've gotten far behind :-( Such beautiful locations, I love all the backroads. Great that Scott has left the property open for others to enjoy. There used to be an old cabin like that in the Turtle Mountains near Parker, AZ that we camped at a couple times every year.

    1. I am so far behind that my blogs won't show up in the feeds. Only if you get them by e-mail. God only knows how long it'll take me to catch up. I'm trying!
