A Second Chance at The Sun Road - Glacier, MT

West Glacier, MT
Fish Creek Campground

We got lucky!  The sun came out our last day on the west side of Glacier so we decided to take another drive up the Going to the Sun Road.  This time we can see blue skies and details.  Like trees and rivers and mountains in the distance!

We had just come around the corner and look who was on the road?  Whoa, this motorcycle rider backed up real quick!  The young bear walked along the road a bit, then went over the side.

What makes this park so beautiful is the sheer steepness of the mountain sides caused by many years of glaciers grinding against them causing these beautiful valleys.

Lee & Trace

That's the Going to the Sun Road hanging on the edge of the mountains.  It really is an amazing road.

You can see so far out in the landscape, it's amazing here!

Lee picked out this great spot for our picnic lunch alongside the cascading waterfall.

Even in August in a dry year, there are waterfalls all around from melt off.

If you look close you can see a small rainbow in the middle.

                                                                   Jackson Glacier below.
Here it is up real close.  Sadly, it may not be around in another 15 years.  I'm sure glad I got to see it.

Always a fun way to travel the Going to the Sun Road if you don't want to drive it yourself.

It is a very narrow road in places.

I can't wait to get to the less crowded east side of Glacier for some spectacular hikes!

    1. It made sense when someone said not to go to the NW in the summer because of the chance of fires. Best to go late spring. You'd think being from CA I'd get that. Glad to be out of the fires now.
